Our managing partner, Israel Markevitz — “Izzy” as he is known throughout the cigar industry — took over Cigarz at Waterford in September 2017. and has been in the cigar business since 2007.
Izzy has been around premium tobacco for many years and is considered a true connoisseur, extremely knowledgeable in cigars and tobacco. Spending time on tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Cuba, learning the nuances of cultivation, hand rolling and manufacturing, to visiting countless humidors throughout the world and personally smoking and familiarizing himself with the numerous varieties on the market, Izzy has developed a unique palate enabling him to aptly recommend cigars based on people’s stated preferences.
Izzy began his professional journey in the industry managing Uptown Cigar Company in Kingston, N.Y. Most recently, he served as sales director at Smoke Inn Cigars in South Florida.
